A mini Ford Ranger on the cards?

MANILA: A sibling to the Ford Ranger is on its way. The pickup truck market has been growing substantially over the last few years as the population has started buying them as lifestyle vehicles as well.

However, mid-size pickups like the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, and others do not fit everyone’s garage and choice. And just for those, Ford Motor Company is coming up with a compact pickup truck.

Jim Farley, the president of the global markets at Ford Motor Company has confirmed in an interview that the automaker is working on expanding the pickup truck range. Furthermore,

Farley also affirmed the fact that they are working on a compact pickup. The baby Ranger is said to be slotted below the on-sale and popular Ranger. Ford is looking forward to 'invest more in affordable versions of their our truck business', added Farley.

To no surprise, Farley did not reveal any other information about the upcoming compact pickup. However, speculations suggest that the baby Ranger could be named as “Courier”. Another question that looms unanswered is whether the smaller pickup will be a car based vehicle or will it be underpinned by a shortened Ranger platform.

We have already seen the Ford Courier in the past which was based on the Fiesta, so, that could be an option. Or, the automaker may go on to use the new Escape which will be based on the Focus as the underpinning as well.

The questions are endless, and so are the speculations. Brace yourselves to be treated with numerous renders, spy shots, leaks, teasers, and whatnot! Powertrain options, whether it will feature a 4WD or not? All these questions must be popping up in your head. Same is our situation. So, hold your patience and wait for Ford to make some moves in the future.
