2020 Toyota Corolla Altis - What we know so far

If you are one of our regular readers, you must be aware of the fact that Toyota Philippines is soon going to launch the 2020 Corolla Altis. Ever since the car was spotted in Laguna, gossip about its availability, new features, and the price have started in most parts of the country. And we are not surprised by it because the Corolla Altis has always been an attractive and popular sedan. So, it is quite obvious that people are going to react (with excitement) to the news of a new model coming their way.

We too are pretty excited about it. But until the new Altis is actually launched, here is what we know about it so far.

Platform

The new 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis will be the 12th generation model. It is based on Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) GA-C platform which has allowed the company to play around with the car’s dimensions. The new Altis is 10 mm longer, 5 mm wider, and 45 mm lower than the model currently on sale. For some reason, Toyota kept the wheelbase of 2,700 mm unchanged.

Looks

Toyota has made certain changes in the way the 2020 Corolla Altis looks. The front end of the car continues to have the same silhouette but features subtle changes. It now gets a long and single piece of chrome slat that acts as the front grille. The headlights are new and are expected to be full LEDs. There are new L-shaped LED DRLs placed in the headlights. The front bumper is mostly the same with some changes in the radiator grille and the side air-intakes.

The rear end of the new 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis has been altered too. The biggest noticeable addition is the pair of new tail lamps. They have a new shape and signature LED tubes. They continue to be a two-piece combination unit. We really like this new design as it has freshened up things a bit.

It has also been reported that the new Altis would be available in new colours - Silver Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Red Mica Metallic, Celestine Gray (not for the base model), Metallic Super White (E and G variants only), and White Pearl (top-end model only).

Engines

This is one of the hottest gossip topics about the new Altis because Toyota has confirmed that there is going to be a hybrid variant of the car as well. Looking at the expected 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis price list, we found that the 1.8-litre engine will be the hybrid variant. It is based on the Atkinson-cycle and produces 97 hp of max power and 142 Nm of peak torque. For the hybrid variant, there will be an electric motor too. This means that the total power output will increase to an estimated 121 PS.

The other expected engine to be mentioned in the 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis specs sheet is the 1.6-litre Dual VVT-i naturally-aspirated engine which churns out 122 PS of power and 153 Nm of torque. For the transmissions, there would be a manual as well as a CVT unit.

Safety features

Toyota has always given safety a top priority and the new Altis does not fall behind. It would get various advanced safety features like a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, Toyota Safety Sense suite, pre-collision system, lane tracing assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure alert with steering assist, telematics, ABS with brake assist, EBD, traction control, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, and many more.

Pricing

There is no official information regarding the 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis price list but if the expected price list is to be believed, the base model of the new Altis would come at just short of a million (Php 999,000) whereas the range-topping hybrid variant would set you back by Php 1,595,000.
