Ford Philippines resolves Ranger gearbox problem

MANILA: Just a few days back, there was a news which mentioned that the 10-speed automatic gearbox fitted in the Thailand-made Ford Ranger (including Ranger Raptor) and Everest had some issue. While speaking on the issue, the company clarified the whole happening.

Ford mentioned that the issue found in some of the Ranger pickups was of an improperly welded stud that held the engine-flex plate to the torque converter. This issue has affected a few vehicles, which have been held up. The other unaffected units have been cleared and sent to the dealers to resume with the sales.

This issue was being handled by the Ford Philippines’ regional operations and the required new parts to sent by air. And due to this statement, it has become clear that there was indeed an issue with the gearbox. However, the issue was resolved as the affected cars were not dispatched to the dealerships in the first place.

Hence, due to the retaining of the said units, the affected batch hasn’t reached the customers, except one. However, the customer who got the delivery of the affected model has already been contacted by the company for a recall. This again, makes it the smallest recall to have ever happened in the country, with just one model called up.

The on-sale Ford Ranger is offered in three engine trims. The base engine is a 2.2-litre motor making 158 PS of power along with a peak torque of 385 Nm. On the other hand, the 2.0-litre motor makes 178 PS of power at 3,500 RPM along with a peak torque of 420 Nm at 1,750 RPM. The most powerful option is a 2.0-litre engine with two turbochargers. It can make a maximum power of 210 PS at 3,750 RPM and a peak torque of 500 Nm coming at 1,750 RPM. Power is sent down to either the rear or all the wheels.
