Batangas industrial park fire destroys 200 cars

MANILA: A fire recently erupted at an industrial site in Barangay Pagaspas, Tanauan City, Batangas that destroyed around hundreds of brand-new vehicles.

According to Bureau of Fire Protection R4A Batangas Provincial Office, yesterday’s fire — which reportedly could have been caused by spent bleaching earth chemicals — went to third alarm.

Before authorities declared fire out, the conflagration reached the open space of a logistics firm that burned around 200 units.

Today, MG (Morris Garages) Motor Philippines issued a statement confirming that they were affected by the blaze.

According to the SAIC Motor Philippines-led automotive distributor, several MG units were affected by the incident — particularly the MG3 Hybrid and MG 4 EV, which were fitted with lithium-ion batteries.

However, the company noted that despite being subjected to intense heat, the vehicle’s power supplies did not combust.

“Given the global supply chain prowess of SAIC Motor, MG Philippines assures its customers that all MG vehicles will continue to be available in all our dealerships nationwide.
