Mitsubishi showcases Xpander AP4 concept at the 2019 IIMS

MANILA: Mitsubishi is flaunting the Xpander rally car named Xpander AP4 at the 2019 IIMS (Indonesia International Motor Show). It is a concept car (as for now) and has been introduced by Rifat Sungkar, Mitsubishi Motor’s brand ambassador and a national rally driver.

While unveiling the Xpander AP4 concept at the IIMS 2019, Rifat Sungkar said, “This product is so inspiring for me, because Mitsubishi has an important history in the world of motorsport. Even my impression when I tried Xpander for the first time in Japan 2.5 years ago was very good, especially in handling and suspension.”

Xpander AP4 concept does not have the seven-seat layout as the second and third-row seats are obliterated from the vehicle. It now comes with two bucket seats at the front along with a roll cage, which is quite rare to make its way in an MPV.

The widebody kit is the most highlighted difference between the pedestrian, family-friendly variant and this rally car. It means the suspension package is beefed-up and also, extensive modifications have been done under the chassis. A chin is also provided to the front apron, and there are some visible work done at the rear fenders.

However, the manufacturer has not spoken much about the mechanical front of the vehicle. Keeping the AP4 regulations in mind, some of the cars come with the turbocharged engine which provides around 280 PS of power. Also, some of the AP4 cars feature an all-wheel-drive layout. One can expect that the production version of the Xpander Ap4 Concept will have a turbocharged engine, with the power output of nearly 300 PS along with an AWD power delivery module.

The production version of Xpander AP4 Concept will be showcased at the upcoming Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.
