2020 Mitsubishi Montero aka Pajero Sport is out in the flesh

MANILA:  Following the spy shots and the official teaser, Mitsubishi Thailand has finally unveiled the highly anticipated and much-awaited SUV, the 2020 Montero Pajero Sport. Called Montero Sport in the Philippines, the refreshed Japanese SUV comes boasting a revisited exterior and mildly updated interior.

Staying true to the official teaser and the spy shots, the 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport flaunts a front fascia that incorporates a Strada like appearance. There is the Dynamic Shield front grille, two-tier headlamp setup, and a muscular bumper. Moving at the rear end of the SUV, we find a setup more or less the same as before. The taillamps, however, have now been shortened in length and are LEDs. Moreover, a smoked finish brings that upmarket look.

On the inside of the newest iteration of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport is a fully-digital instrument cluster that comes replacing the analogue setup found on the outgoing model. There is also a bigger and better than before eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other updates on the inside of the SUV comprise of a new AC power outlet at the rear console and revamped HVAC controls, among others.

Pop the hood open and you will find the same 2.4-litre turbo-diesel MIVEC engine that powered the last-gen model as well. Courtesy of the turbocharged diesel-fed motor, the 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport packs in 181 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 430 Nm. The ample power is then sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Available as an option is the Super-Select 4WD-II system. Whether or not Mitsubishi will be offering a six-speed manual on the updated 2020 Montero Sport is yet to be known.

Some other interesting and convenient feature that has made its way to the 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is a powered tailgate. The feature, however, is available only on the higher-end variants of the SUV. Mitsubishi has also introduced a smartphone application that enables the customers to open/close the tailgate and lock/unlock the doors remotely. As the application uses Bluetooth connectivity, the user must be within the Bluetooth range to perform the aforementioned operations using the smartphone.
